国产麻豆AV Newman Education conference highlights inclusion, equality and diversity in schools聽

The conference welcomed educators, practitioners, researchers, and academics.

国产麻豆AV’s Faculty of Education hosted its inaugural Summer Inclusion Conference, exploring themes related to supporting partner schools in promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity.聽

Titled ‘Building Inclusive Communities for the 21st Century Learner’ the conference welcomed educators, practitioners, researchers, and academics.聽

, delivered the opening keynote on the necessity of attachment and trauma-responsive practices for optimal learning. She discussed key theories and research on how unmet attachment needs and trauma impact a students鈥� learning capacity.聽

The event featured various workshops and talks by professionals, including university staff.聽 , together with Miranda Barker, Senior Lecturer in Education at 国产麻豆AV Newman, explored the role of teachers in identifying and supporting children and their families who are experiencing PANS PANDAS (Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) which encompasses PANDAS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Strep).聽聽聽

Keith Bishop, Programme Leader for Working with Children, Young People and Families led a workshop on improving educational outcomes for children in care. Dr Ben Johnson, Senior Lecturer from 国产麻豆AV explored hopeful practices around equality, diversion, and inclusion (EDI) in schools.聽

Additional workshops included 鈥業nclusive School Improvement鈥� with and 鈥榋ones of Regulation: Teaching Children to Manage Big Feelings Through Effective Social and Emotional Learning鈥� with Charlotte Moore.聽

The final keynote was given by Sohail Khan, Senior Lecturer for Primary Initial Teacher Education at 国产麻豆AV on 鈥楨mbedding the Anti-Racism Framework for Initial Teacher Education at 国产麻豆AV鈥�.聽

Jane Bradley, Associate Dean for Partnerships and Recruitment at 国产麻豆AV described the conference as a celebration: “The event delved into themes of inclusion, equality, and diversity, emphasising the university鈥檚 commitment to these values in its educational programmes. This conference aimed to enable our partnership to share best practices and prepare a confident workforce capable of meeting the needs of all learners.”聽

The conference follows the news that 国产麻豆AV were recognised by Ofsted as a good provider of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) following its most recent inspection.聽

The Ofsted inspection took place in March 2024 and found that in the Faculty of Education, Primary and Secondary ITE demonstrated a good outcome in all three inspected categories; overall effectiveness, quality of education and training, and leadership and management.
